U18 National Final set to be a 'massive occasion' at Villa Park

FixturesAston Villa U18 Vs. Manchester City U18 - Sat, May 17th 2025, 13:00 Jimmy Shan expects the Under-18 Premier League National Final to be a “massive occasion” when his Aston Villa side take on Manchester City at Villa Park on Saturday. Having won the South title with a game to spare, the Young Lions now meet the North champions City, who lost just one league match this term, to decide the fate of the national title. Shan is embracing the chance for his FA Youth Cup-winning squad to end a positive season on a high note. “The season’s coming to the end but the only thing we’ve said to the boys is that it’s a privilege to be in the position of having such a big game to conclude your season,” he said. “There’s been a good energy around the group. A lot of clubs are winding down now, but we’ve obviously got this massive game and massive occasion at Villa Park to look forward to. “We’re doing exactly that and looking forward to the day.” The National Final takes place just under two weeks on from the Youth Cup final, when Villa beat City 3-1 in front of 25,000 supporters at Villa Park. The Cityzens scored inside of two minutes before the home side roared back to record the club’s fifth triumph in the competition. Shan is expecting a reaction from their opponents when they meet again in B6. He said: “Goals change games as we all know, and the game could have been very, very different. “They had a threat as we expected them to have and they had some big chances. We managed to be more clinical in and around their penalty area and defended our penalty area better than they did at times. “We know they pose a threat and that they have some exciting talent. We’re going to have to be right on our game again on Saturday to make sure we overcome that.”U18 Premier League National FinalBuy Tickets!

Premier League and FA Cup final: 10 things to look out for this weekend

Goodbyes to Goodison and Vardy, Palace and City brace for Wembley and the return of Kai Havertz Aston Villa could not conceal their anger after their game at home to Tottenham was brought forward 48 hours. Villa’s director of football operations, Damian Vidagany, said shifting the game from Sunday to Friday was “clear prejudice” against the club and Villa objected to Spurs’s request for it to be moved to aid their preparations for Wednesday’s Europa League final. Villa were also privately perplexed at Bournemouth’s game with Manchester City being rearranged for Tuesday, after Saturday’s FA Cup final, which is guaranteed to have implications on whether eighth place qualifies for the Europa Conference League. The flipside to all of this is Villa can get on the front foot, kicking off 45 minutes before Chelsea entertain Manchester United and two days before Nottingham Forest head to West Ham and Arsenal host Newcastle. Victory for Villa could hoist them as high as fourth before a final-day trip to Old Trafford and, psychologically, that could prove a knockout blow. Marcus Rashford could make £40m move to one of Aston Villa’s rivals

No clause in loan deal that stops other clubs buying himStriker eager to join Champions League side Marcus Rashford could move for £40m to a team other than Aston Villa should Manchester United receive a bid of this value despite the Midlands club having an option to buy him for that sum. Rashford signed for Villa on loan in January and it is understood there is no clause in their agreement with United that prevents other clubs from buying him for the same price if the parent club and forward agree to the move. Emery previews Spurs showdown

FixturesAston Villa Vs. Tottenham Hotspur - Fri, May 16th 2025, 19:30 Unai Emery met with the media at Bodymoor Heath on Thursday afternoon to preview Aston Villa's clash against Tottenham Hotpsur.  The Villans host Spurs in the club's final home match of the season aiming to set a club-record sequence of 18 matches unbeaten at Villa Park in the Premier League era. And the Villa manager spoke to local and national media outlets at the club's training base ahead of the game, discussing Friday night's encounter in B6, the stern test he expects from Ange Postecoglou's side, the positive impact Villa fans can have under the lights and much more. You can read the key lines from his pre-match press conference below...On how he’s feeling ahead of run-in… “I am wishing to play. “I don’t want holidays because we’re in a very good moment after a long season, but now we’re very, very motivated. “Very excited to play at Villa Park tomorrow, for our objectives we have in front of us to play again in Europe. “It’s not in our hands but we can have some options to play Champions League again. “And focusing on Tottenham because I know the most difficult way we can have is our own way, playing against Tottenham tomorrow and how we can beat them.”On a tough test he’s expecting from Tottenham… “Of course, they are trying to manage to play Premier League and to play Europa League. “How they are performing in the Europa League is really fantastic. “They’re in the final, and how they can prepare as well as possible for the final maybe is their first objective tomorrow. “I think they’re going to play with their better players, they are going to try to compete getting their best performances to be ready for the final. “As well, because to play in the Premier League each match, for the supporters, for the league, is always important. “I expect of them the best preparations for tomorrow and for the final they’re going to play, with the best players they have. “Maybe some players are coming back after being injured or someone is not available tomorrow. “But I know tomorrow we have to play our best and we have to focus 100 per cent in our gameplan, for 90 minutes, respecting them.”On permutations for last two matches… “I can’t waste time with some calculations about how it’s going. “I was thinking, and doing the calculations, two, three, four, five, six matches before we weren’t arriving until now with the opportunity we have. “Only tomorrow’s match, only tomorrow’s three points, only how we can beat tomorrow’s opponent, how we can add more points in the table. “This is our responsibility, this is our focus and this is, really, how I can speak with the players, how we are preparing for the match tomorrow. “Enjoy and be motivated, excited with our supporters, how important the match is tomorrow and the opponent we’re going to face tomorrow. “We’ll need the supporters transmitting us their energy, their wishes. We have to connect tomorrow in Villa Park again with our supporters. “Enjoy playing, competing and doing our best.”On the impact of Villa fans under the lights… “Last week we were speaking about the timings and the schedule, I was thinking for our supporters, for them to play the weekend was maybe easier for them. “After it, tomorrow is a good time, 7.30pm, Friday before the weekend. “All supporters can come to the stadium to be with us at Villa Park. “Hopefully the stadium will be, again, full with supporters. “We need everybody helping us and supporting us and trying to get our best through them. “Our commitment with the supporters is a huge commitment, trying to share our moment with them.”

Ismaïla Sarr: the bargain buy who has become Crystal Palace’s unsung hero

Senegal forward’s signing last summer was years in the making and his double helped fire Palace to the FA Cup final Ismaïla Sarr hasn’t had many more memorable weeks. But most remarkable about his match-winning performance for Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa is that it came after his wife, Fatou, had given birth to twins a few days earlier. “It was a surprise – nobody knew,” said the manager Oliver Glasner after Palace’s thrilling victory at Wembley thanks to two goals from the Senegal forward. Eberechi Eze said the BBC pundit Alan Shearer had awarded him player of the match “a bit prematurely” before Sarr’s second. “I’ll be giving this to him inside – he’s a top player and he’s helped us so much this season,” the England forward said.
