West Ham United v Arsenal: Premier League – live

Premier League updates from the 5.30pm GMT kick-offLive scoreboard | And feel free to drop Emillia an email Hello, good evening and welcome to coverage of West Ham’s Premier League clash with Arsenal. Julen Lopetegui earned himself a lifeline on Monday when his team cruised to a shock 2-0 win over Newcastle at St James’ Park. It was the club’s first victory in just under a month, giving them some breathing space between the likes of Leicester and Everton. Meanwhile, Arsenal have returned to fine form following the international break. Mikel Arteta and his players endured a rough patch between the end of October and the start of November, but Martin Ødegaard’s return to full fitness has provided a huge boost. The North London side earned a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend followed by a 5-1 victory against Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday, so they should be oozing confidence going into this London derby. Mikel Arteta has ‘sympathy’ for Pep Guardiola over City’s poor run of results

‘Every defeat is obviously super-painful’Arsenal’s Gabriel a fitness doubt for game at West Ham Mikel Arteta has said he feels sympathy for Pep Guardiola after Manchester City’s poor run of results but said dealing with setbacks is part of being a manager. City will attempt to record a first win in seven matches when they face the leaders, Liverpool, on Sunday, with Arsenal having the opportunity to close the gap to Arne Slot’s side at West Ham 24 hours earlier after impressive wins over Nottingham Forest and Sporting this week. Arteta expressed concern for Guardiola’s wellbeing after City surrendered a three-goal lead against Feyenoord in midweek but said he expected their rivals to rediscover their form after such a sustained period of success. Nwaneri scores first league goal as Arsenal beat Nottingham Forest

It was the first day of the rest of their season. After a patchy start to the campaign, littered with red cards and brain fades, double saves and points needlessly dropped, what Arsenal needed more than anything else was a straightforward win. It’s in the routine Saturday 3pm kick-offs just as much as in the live televised clashes, and in wins ticked off, almost without incident, far more than in the great expenditures of energy, that championships are decided. Arsenal may or may not be challenging for the title in May but this at last was a performance and result that allowed them to believe they may yet be able to recover from a run of two points from their previous four games. Brentford keep Everton at arm’s length after Christian Nørgaard’s red card

Trouble is brewing for Sean Dyche as The Friedkin Group await approval on their proposed takeover of Everton. The Everton manager was left in no doubt as to the growing discontent inside Goodison Park after Brentford held out for 53 minutes with 10 men to take their first Premier League away point of the season. They did so with relatively little trouble, which said everything about Everton’s second half display. The Brentford captain, Christian Nørgaard ,was shown a straight red card for imprinting his studs into Jordan Pickford’s knee four minutes before the interval. Everton had started brightly against the 11 men of Brentford but became increasingly clueless as the contest wore on. It is now five draws in eight league games for Dyche’s team and no goals in three outings. An ominous December – which includes games against all of the top four, Ruben Amorim’s first home league game as Manchester United manager, a revitalised Wolves and Nottingham Forest – now awaits.
