Feyenoord 0-2 Aston Villa

FixturesFeyenoord Vs. Aston Villa - Thu, Oct 2nd 2025, 20:00 Aston Villa made it two wins from two in the UEFA Europa League as they overcame Feyenoord in Rotterdam. At the scene of the club’s most famous night, De Kuip stadium, Unai Emery’s men came on strong in the second half to see off the Eredivisie leaders. Emi Buendía scored for the second game running when he placed a shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to open the scoring on 61 minutes. Captain John McGinn doubled the visiting Villans’ advantage with 12 minutes to play, continuing his hot streak with a third goal in as many games. Ayase Ueda’s disallowed goal provided a scare in the first half, but Marco Bizot proved unbeatable in his homeland as Unai Emery’s team made it six points from six to begin the league phase. Victory in the Netherlands was a third overall for Villa, who will now return home to take on Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday. Villa’s return to Rotterdam for the first time since the club’s most famous night, the 1982 European Cup final triumph, conjured plenty of nostalgia for fans, and the current squad were inspired by that history as they focused on making it two wins from two in the competition.   Emery brought Buendía, Ian Maatsen, Boubacar Kamara and Pau Torres into his starting XI to face the Eredivisie pacesetters, while Emi Martínez had to be replaced between the posts by Bizot following the warm-up. Despite the late call-up, the Dutchman looked assured, parrying away a drive from Anis Hadj Moussa after ten minutes. Anel Ahmedhodzic survived a lengthy VAR review for a red card after bringing down Ollie Watkins just outside the box, and the hosts looked to make the most of the reprieve at the other end. Bizot blocked a volley from Ueda, Ian Maatsen cleared Sem Steijn’s goalbound effort and Ueda headed narrowly wide as Feyenoord piled on the pressure. Watkins tested Timon Wellenreuther before Robin van Persie’s men went back on the attack, believing they’d opened the scoring when Ueda’s header from a corner snuck over the line. However, referee Rade Obrenovic blew up for a foul on Matty Cash in the build-up, much to the anger of the home side. Having been held in check through the first 45 minutes, Villa showed their attacking teeth early in the second when Evann Guessand’s snapshot clipped the outside of the post after superb work from Maatsen. And it wasn’t long before the visitors took the lead, Buendía coming to the fore and placing a shot into the bottom corner from just outside the box following tenacious work from Boubacar Kamara to win the ball back. The goal helped to reinforce Villa’s growing control on the game, and they headed into the final 20 minutes with the fresh legs of Dutch duo Donyell Malen and Lamare Bogarde to help them secure the result. The direct running of Malen helped to create the crucial second goal 12 minutes from time when the forward embarked on a solo run into the box, with the ball falling to McGinn to tuck home. Almost immediately, Bizot preserved the two-goal cushion with a fine, close-range save from Luciano Valente. Villa continued to repel Feyenoord in the closing stages as they secured consecutive wins and clean sheets in the Europa League.Upcoming FixturesAston Villa Vs.
